THE DIRECT ANSWER

Hotel displays need a clearly assigned job: welcome, directions or current room status. Plan language, freshness, readability and ownership separately for each zone. A lobby video does not solve wayfinding. Test the route from entrance to destination with visitors and provide a fallback. Sensitive guest information must not appear uncontrolled on public screens.

01

Three jobs, three content models

A lobby screen can combine offers and directions but needs priorities. At a junction, destinations and direction must be easy to recognize. Outside a meeting room, the room name and current event matter. Use consistent destination names across screens, booking documents and physical signs.

02

Test multilingual content

Check the longest labels and switch language during a task without losing the destination. Translation must extend beyond the starting menu. Touch wayfinding also needs understandable back, reset and help actions. Test real routes with people unfamiliar with the building.

03

Organize freshness and privacy

Establish the event data source, change approvals and removal of expired events. Display only information approved for the public purpose. Integration failures need a clearly recognizable fallback. Do not treat hotel screens as safety or evacuation communication without appropriate specialist planning.

PLANNING EXAMPLE

Planning steps and acceptance checks

A hotel welcomes conference guests with changing room destinations. Take three visitors unfamiliar with the building from the entrance to a destination. Test long German and English names at actual size. Move an event, then interrupt the integration. The test includes signs along the route, not just the screen. An attractive start screen is not successful wayfinding if visitors lose direction at the next junction.

Three concrete next steps

  • Check three real visitor routes.
  • Test language switching and long names.
  • Rehearse event changes and data failure.

Limit of this recommendation

Public screens need approved content; names in booking data are not automatically suitable for public display.
